STANDARD FEATURES

FRAME: The press frame is a heavy high tensile strength steel fabrication. All
weldments are completely stress relieved for ultimate stability. The main
bearings in the crown are rigidly supported by a large beam to virtually
eliminate crankshaft deflection. Each individual section: bed, uprights, and
crown are cross-keyed together. Tie rods are pre-shrunk to 200% of rated
elastic limit to hold these sections together in compression. These tie rods
are predrilled to accept cal-rod heaters. Hydraulic tie rod nuts are
available at additional cost. The bed is predrilled to accept a die cushion.
Maximum bed deflection is .001" per foot of bed length when uniformly loaded.

RAM: The ram is a heavy one-piece steel fabrication, totally stress relieved.
The ram face is predrilled and tapped twenty locations for die hold down. A
knock-out slot is included on double point presses and is optional on single
point presses. On single point presses 150 tons and smaller, a manual ram
adjustment system is standard with open end wrench included. On double point
presses 150 tons and smaller, a ratchet type ram adjustment system is
included. All presses 200 tons and larger, use a positive air powered
motorized ram adjustment system. This system is available for all straight-
side presses and includes a 5 digit shutheight readout located in front of ram
for ease of viewing.

BEARINGS: All bearings are fitted with replaceable nickel/bronze liners. They
are precision honed and then hand scraped for long bearing life. Main and
pitman bearing diameters are oversized to give the crankshaft extra rigidity.

CRANKSHAFT: The crankshaft on all straight-side presses are made of high
Tensile strength solid steel forgings. All bearing surfaces on these
crankshafts are precision ground for optimum fit. Counterweighting of the
crankshaft is standard on all high speed presses. Standard shaft extension is
on the left side of the press for the addition of feeding equipment. Extension
of the shaft for the right side is optional.

PARALLELISM: A high strength solid steel bolster plate is furnished with each
press. It is precision ground on both sides and then checked for parallelism
to the ram face. Parallelism between the ram face and bolster plate are with
+/- .001" per foot.

CONNECTIONS: On 150 ton presses and smaller, a ball type connection is used.
These incorporate a non-metallic replaceable ball seat with a heavy steel
adjustable ball nut. All presses 200 tons and greater, a sturdy barrel wrist
pin connection is used. Each connection is sized for full press capacity.

CLUTCH: All Johnson presses utilize the maximum efficiency of the Wichita
air friction clutch. Benefits of this low interia clutch are: (Cool operation
by friction elements to engage, minimizing interia, air tube may be replaced
without dismounting for easy maintenance, no adjustment or lubrication
required, release springs ensure positive disengagement). All of these
clutches carry a 5 year warranty.

BRAKE: The brake is an air actuated, spring set shoe type. The width as well
as the diameter of the brake drum are sized according to each individual press
to assure correct brake capacity needed for optimum stopping. This is a fail
safe braking system with a low pressure switch designed to automatically
disengage the clutch and activate the braking system in the event of a air or
electrical failure. On all twin end drive presses a Disc type brake is
standard.

DRIVE ARRANGEMENT: On flywheel presses 100 tons and larger or presses
exceeding 48" Left to Right, the flywheel is quill mounted. This relieves
direct stress of the weight of the flywheel onto the crankshaft whereby
reducing heat build-up of the flywheel side main bearing and provides for a
smoother running press. On geared models, a seeking tooth ration is used to
virtually eliminate repeated starting and stopping on any one tooth. On all
presses the flywheel hub is fitted with large diameter tapered roller
bearings, spaced to offer maximum balance and extended life.

GIBS: All gibs incorporate solid wear strips with special alloy bronze to
give extra life. Gibs are hand scraped for precision fit. Standard gibbing
includes a flat gib at the rear and an adjustable 45 degree front gib. As an
alternative, Straight-side presses can be furnished with 8 point gibbing for
precision die alignment and adjustability in all directions.

AIR COUNTERBALANCE: All Straight-side presses are furnished with an air
counterbalance system. This system includes two air cylinders, surge tank,
regulator, fittings, mounted diagonally on top of the press to facilitate
maintenance.

LUBRICATION: A completely automatic lubrication system is standard for all
Straight-side presses. This system delivers the precise amount of oil to all
bearing and contact points, system includes: low oil level protection with
cycle timer, pump, and system fault light. A full recirculating lubrication
system is available upon request with in-line monitoring.

MOTORIZATION: A open type ball bearing design, fixed speed motor is supplied
with the press, wired 3 phase, 60 cycle, 230/460 volt (per customer
specifications) with an adjustable motor base.

ELECTRICAL ENCLOSURE: Mounted in left upright of press, Nema 12 enclosure
contains: 115 volt control circuits, fused disconnect switch, across the line
motor starter, relays, redundant electrical circuits which control the
operation of the series mounted air solenoid valves. These circuits are
monitored by two top stop limit switches.

A rotary limit switch is furnished with Top Stop, Brake Monitor, and Broken
chain detector. Additional rotary cams and circuits are available at extra
cost.

OPERATOR SET-UP AND CONTROL STATION: Master operator set-up and control
station is mounted in a separate enclosure located at front of press includes:

- Keylock selector switch for: Off-Inch-Single stroke-Continuous
- Keylock selector switch for: Dead motor jog ON_OFF (15 hp motor sizes only)
- Keylock selector switch for: Run-Reset

GUARDS AND COVERS: All guards and covers for the flywheel and gears (when
applicable) are made of heavy reinforced steel fabrications. These guards and
covers conform to the American National Standard B11-1-1971 code. {Totally

PAINT: Press is painted "Machinery Gray", alternative color is optional.

SKIDDING: All Johnson presses are skidded using extra heavy duty timber for
construction, presses are skidded to facilitate the ease of loading and
unloading.

START-UP: After this press is erected and wired, if within the Continental
North America, a South Bend Johnson Press technician is furnished to start up
press and instruct in-plant personnel on operation of the press for up to two
days.

Note: The control equipment is in accordance with NFPA-79, the 11/1/75
Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Federal Register O.S.H.A. 12/4/74
standards. Point of operation guards are also required in many instances and
these safety codes should be used as your guide. Purchaser agrees to provide,
install and ensure the usage of point of operation safeguarding on every
operation performed by the machine, in accordance with all specifications and
requirements of current Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
