2-Axis CNC Lathes — High-Performance Turning

A 2-axis CNC lathe operates on X (cross) and Z (longitudinal) axes, enabling turning, facing, grooving, and threading. A 3-axis CNC lathe adds a Y-axis or driven tooling capability, allowing off-center milling and drilling in a single setup. For high-volume cylindrical part production, 2-axis turning centers are highly efficient and cost-effective.

G71 is a FANUC CNC canned cycle for stock removal in turning. It automatically calculates multiple roughing passes to remove material toward a defined profile, reducing programming time. On FANUC-controlled lathes like the FEMCO HL-55 NT, G71 is widely used for efficient rough turning of cylindrical parts before a finishing pass.

Our CNC turning centers range from 20 HP (FEMCO HL-250) to 75 HP (Clausing CB/CC/CK/CL Series). The FEMCO HL-55 NT and HL-55/1250 feature a 35 HP FANUC spindle motor paired with a two-speed ZF gearbox, providing high torque for heavy-duty interrupted cuts and large-diameter workpieces.

Turning diameter capacity varies by model. The FEMCO HL-250 handles up to 9.84 inches, the FEMCO HL-55 NT and Femco CNC Lathe handle up to 24.21 inches, and the Clausing series offers swing over bed up to 80 inches, making it suitable for large oil field components and heavy industrial workpieces.
