CNC Turning Center for 24 Inch Diameter Parts

G71 is a canned turning cycle used in FANUC CNC controls — the same controls featured on these machines. It automates multiple rough-turning passes along a programmed contour, removing material in defined incremental depths. This cycle significantly reduces programming time for cylindrical stock removal and is commonly used in high-volume production of large-diameter parts.

A turning center rotates the workpiece against stationary or live tooling to produce cylindrical parts via operations like turning, facing, boring, and threading. A machining center typically holds the workpiece stationary while a rotating spindle performs milling, drilling, and tapping. Turning centers like the FEMCO HL-55 and Clausing series are optimized for large-diameter rotational components.

Centre height in a CNC lathe refers to the vertical distance from the machine bed to the spindle centerline, which determines the maximum radius — and thus the maximum diameter — of workpieces the machine can accommodate. For these 24-inch capacity turning centers, the centre height corresponds to approximately 12 inches, supporting workpieces with a turning diameter of up to 24.21 inches.

The FEMCO HL-55 NT and HL-55/1250 are chucker-style machines with no tailstock, designed specifically for profitable production of large-diameter parts up to 24 inches without tailstock support. The Clausing CNC Lathe includes a hydraulic tailstock with a rotating quill and programmable body movement, offering flexibility for longer workpieces requiring additional support.

The FEMCO HL-55 series features a FANUC CNC Control with a 35 HP FANUC spindle motor. The Clausing CNC Lathe is available with a Fanuc Oi Control as standard, with optional Siemens CNC Control on the SC series.
